Care Guide

Every Pavonique dress arrives with its own care label and product page details. Always check those first — they reflect the specific fabric, embellishment, and construction of your garment. The guidance below covers what is common across our dress collections, from lightweight chiffon-feel maxi dresses to heavily beaded evening gowns with feather accents.

Before You Put It On

Locate the care label, typically sewn into an interior side seam, and review any notes on the product page before first wear. Inspect the garment under good light for loose beads, lifted sequins, or displaced feather elements. For corset-structured bodices, adjust tie closures or fasten zippers gently, gripping the lining or interior seam rather than pulling directly on embellished surfaces. With open-back or spaghetti-strap designs, secure all closures before stepping into the dress so hair, jewelry, or nails do not snag the straps.

After Each Wear

Hang the dress on a padded hanger in a well-ventilated area for several hours before storing it away. Body heat and moisture can settle into woven fabrics and cause faint odors or creasing if the garment is folded immediately.

For lightweight chiffon-feel and smooth woven fabrics, gently smooth cascading ruffles, tiered ruffles, and pleated skirt sections with flat hands while the fabric is still slightly warm. This helps the drape reset without pressing or ironing.

If you notice a small spill or spot, blot the area with a clean, white, lint-free cloth. Do not rub, as friction can distort the weave or dislodge surface embellishments. Before attempting any spot treatment, test your approach on an inconspicuous inner seam first. Avoid applying perfume, hairspray, or antiperspirant directly onto the fabric; let them dry on your skin before dressing.

Handling Beads, Sequins, and Feathers

Several of our evening gowns feature hand-applied glass beads, metallic sequins, rhinestone lattice patterns, and sculptural faux feather accents. These elements are delicate and respond poorly to pressure, friction, and moisture.

  • When putting on or removing a beaded gown, grip the interior lining or seam allowance rather than the embellished exterior.
  • Do not fold, press, or stack anything on top of feathered shoulder details. Crushed feathers will not spring back.
  • Keep embellished areas away from rough surfaces, bag straps, and seatbelt edges during transport.
  • For sequin fringe or bead cascades, support the weight of the fringe when the dress is on a hanger so it does not stretch or pull on the base fabric.

Storing Between Events

Store dresses in a cool, dry, dark space. Ultraviolet light can gradually shift the tone of printed fabrics and weaken thread bonds holding beadwork.

  • Use padded hangers for structured bodices, corset lines, and shoulder details. Wire or plastic hangers can leave indentations in lightweight woven fabrics.
  • For floor-length and train gowns, allow the hem to hang freely without folding. If closet height is limited, loosely roll the train section in acid-free tissue paper rather than creasing it.
  • Place a breathable garment bag over beaded or feathered pieces to reduce dust settling between events. Avoid sealed plastic bags, which can trap moisture against metallic threads and sequins.
  • Do not store embellished dresses flat in drawers or stacked with other garments. The weight of items above can press sequins and beads into the fabric surface.

When to Stop and Seek Professional Care

For gowns with dense beadwork, rhinestone patterns, or feathered elements, professional dry cleaning is the recommended approach to preserve these details. If a stain is larger than a coin, has set in, or involves an unknown substance, stop your own treatment and consult a specialist cleaner experienced with embellished formalwear. Attempting to clean heavily beaded or feathered sections at home risks loosening or flattening the very details that make the piece distinctive.
